One of our great Fiber Artists here at Artworks takes us on a tour of her beautiful studio where she holds #rughooking classes, and where she hand dyes her wool in such beautiful arrays of colors. Linda has enjoyed rug hooking since 1980 and is a double-certified McGown teacher, able to teach both the fine-cut shading of traditional rug hooking and the primitive, wide-cut look of antique rugs. Her studio is a lively gathering place for weekly classes and weekend workshops, and she has taught at camps in several states. Linda is past president of the Southeastern McGown Teachers' Workshop. She is a member of the Mountain Regional Arts & Crafts Guild, Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Assoc., Southern Appalachian Artist Guild, and North Georgia Arts Guild. Her work can be seen in north Georgia at ArtWorks in Hiawassee and at the BRMAA Art Center in Blue Ridge.
Linda Says," I love everything about rug hooking!
From the creation of a new pattern to the dyeing of the wool, making the perfect colors to execute that pattern, the placing of those colors, and even the finishing of the rug or wall hanging or pillow- it’s all exciting for me, every time! When I can help a student to achieve that same excitement, as well as a beautiful completed project, I feel as though I’ve really accomplished something special.
Graceful, curving lines in a pattern feel right to me, but color is the most important aspect of my art. Dyeing the perfect shade or intensity of a particular color and then hooking it in makes a piece come alive- it becomes my baby. It just doesn’t get any better than that!"
